Well… what a week in the UK. If you blinked, you probably missed at least three major plot twists, a weather warning, a political reshuffle that felt like someone accidentally pressed shuffle on the country, and a World Cup that feels like nobody could give a damn about.
What. A. Week.
If the UK had a “quiet mode,” someone definitely turned it off and threw the phone into a volcano.
Let’s recap:
• The Prime Minister announced he’s stepping down — and the nation collectively said, “Again? Already?” (Please check trusted news sources for the latest updates — things are moving faster than my morning coffee.)
• Andy Burnham’s name is suddenly everywhere, and half the country is Googling “Can a man from Manchester really become Prime Minister?” Early reports show he’s a key figure in the conversation, but nothing is official yet — so we’re all just refreshing the news like it’s the final episode of a BBC drama.
• Discover Black Country is officially taking shape, and honestly, it’s the most stable thing happening right now. At least that project isn’t resigning, melting, or trending on Twitter for the wrong reasons.
• And then there’s the weather… The UK is currently hotter than the sun, the Sahara, and Satan’s armpit combined. We’ve reached that time of year when the government issues heatwave warnings and British people respond by… going outside to “make the most of it.” I also heard something somewhere about banning air conditioning or creating another tax to have them? What??? WHAT?!?!?
• World Cup Round-up: Because if politics didn’t give us enough drama, football said, “Hold my drink.” Brazil is doing what Brazil does, arriving and saying, “We’re not here to participate, we’re here to cause heart attacks.”… Not that I’ve had a chance to have any of them, because by the time the games have been on, I am usually half asleep. But between snoozes, I caught a goal or another. England played with the confidence of a nation that believes this could be the year… …and the anxiety of a nation that remembers it never is… (Sorry, Amy, I had to. lol). And we’ve also been trying to keep an eye on Scotland, which somehow has become our soul country, and entered the tournament with pure passion, pure heart, and pure “we’re just happy to be here.” Results aside, the Scottish fans remain undefeated in vibes, volume, and national pride. And I had to laugh a bit about fans depleting Chicago’s beer stock! At least they cleared up all after themselves, which was kinda admirable!
So yes — it’s been a week. A chaotic, sweaty, political‑musical‑chairs kind of week.
But the weekend is here. Let’s hydrate, breathe, laugh, and pretend we’re not living inside a group chat with 70 million participants.
We’ll pick everything back up next week — politics, projects, heatwaves, and whatever else the universe decides to throw at us.
I am actually considering starting a weekly podcast of sorts from next week on… Just to add ONE MORE THING to the huge pile of other things I am currently dipping my toes in… What do you think?
Do let me know in the comments, DMs, PMs, Carrier Pigeon, and whatever other method you can think!
For now: Happy weekend, folks. Stay cool, stay kind, and stay hydrated.
